On Monday, November 25, the LA Clippers and Kaiser Permanente announced a long-term partnership committed to improving the health and well-being of the Greater Los Angeles community. Moving forward, Kaiser Permanente will serve as the Clippers’ Official Health Care Partner and Team Physicians.
Kaiser Permanente: Shaping the Future of Health and Well-being
Kaiser Permanente is a healthcare organization committed to shaping the future of health and well-being. Recognized as one of America’s leading not-for-profit healthcare providers, they have offered quality, affordable service since 1945. As leaders in their industry, it makes sense that the Clippers would choose such an organization as a partner to meet their healthcare needs and those of the community.
“Kaiser Permanente was selected as our Official Health Care Partner and Team Physicians because of their long-standing reputation in sports medicine,” said Scott Sonnenberg, the LA Clippers and Intuit Dome’s Chief Commercial Officer. “This long-term partnership with Kaiser Permanente demonstrates our two highly-valued and respected organization’s deep commitment to improving the health of Los Angeles residents, as well as our commitment to the health for the future—the youth of Greater LA.”
A Premiere Sports Medicine Program for the Community
Kaiser Permanente already has a premiere sports medicine program in its Kaiser Permanente Training Center. Through this partnership, this resource will be made accessible to the Clippers. Beyond what the organization already offers the Greater Los Angeles community, Kaiser Permanente plans to launch several community initiatives to bolster its partnership with the Clippers.
Community Activation Fund
Firstly, Kaiser Permanente will launch a multi-year community activation fund initiative with several community partners. Their contribution will address the needs of youth in Inglewood and surrounding Los Angeles communities, emphasizing social and emotional health, promoting physical activity, and providing education and career exposure.
Community Engagement
As part of their commitment to benefiting Greater Los Angeles youth, the Clippers and Kaiser Permanente plan to collaborate on activities and programs for the community. As part of these initiatives, the Inuit Dome campus will be opened to local youth as a venue for planned programming related to the community activation fund.
Sports Medicine Clinic
Additionally, Kaiser Permanente will establish a new sports medicine clinic within the Inuit Dome campus, serving the Clippers, Kaiser Permanente members, and the broader community. The clinic, which will specialize in addressing the sports medicine needs of Greater Los Angeles, is expected to open in late 2025.
“We are pleased to support the LA Clippers and provide the expertise and high-quality care to professional athletes as well as Kaiser Permanente members and the community,” said Ramin Davidoff, MD, executive medical director of the Southern California Permanente Medical Group. “Our team of sports medicine physicians has extensive experience and expertise in the specialized care of sports medicine focused on comprehensive preventive care and injury treatment to help athletes perform their best.”
The Clippers’ Decision
Beyond serving as a partnership for its athletes’ health, the Clippers emphasize how their choice would benefit the Greater Los Angeles community. Kaiser Permanente found a partner who would offer the specialization necessary for their athletes’ well-being and be willing to serve the community around them. Kaiser Permanente was a great choice in a shared mission to elevate community health.
“The LA Clippers share Kaiser Permanente’s vision for a thriving community that embraces total health and wellness and that’s what makes this a perfect partnership,” said Michelle Gaskill-Hames, president of Kaiser Permanente Southern California, Health Plan, and Hospitals. “This collaboration will strengthen our commitment to the community, expand our care delivery and highlight our exceptional health care for both athletes and Southern California residents.”
