If there’s one thing that visitors should know about in Los Angeles, it’s the city’s hotels. Hilary Reinsberg, Head of Editorial for Travel, Lifestyle, and Dining at Chase, understands this sentiment. “Whatever wellness means to you—hiking, surfing, walks on the beach, spa treatments, yoga classes, or simply access to a place that sells green juices—Southern California will have you covered,” she said. “There are plenty of reasons it’s become a wellness go-to, but the combination of year-round great weather, mountain desert and coastal landscapes, and access to fresh produce in Southern California are certainly key parts of it.”

Needless to say, when the Southern California route from the Santa Ynez Valley to San Diego was named one of Chase Travel’s 25 Trips to Take in 2025, it was befitting. “Driving down the California coastline is one of America’s iconic road trips. While there’s a lot of attention on the San Francisco to Los Angeles route, there are good reasons to focus on a more southern approach, and part of that is amazing restaurants and hotels,” Reinsberg said.

In addition to the plethora of wellness-related businesses, she notes some amazing restaurants along the way, including some of the most highly acclaimed restaurants in all of California. In Santa Ynez Valley, it’s Bell’s. In LA, it’s the Caribbean seafood restaurant Si! Mon, which was The Infatuation LA’s top-rated new restaurant of 2024. As for Santa Barbara? “It’s a fantastic food town,” she said.

If you fly into the Santa Barbara airport and start driving south, you can spend the night at the almost halfway point during your drive in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Hotels For Wellness

Nobu Ryokan Malibu

With 16 rooms, this hotel is one of the most low-key, private sanctuaries in any bustling city. The Japanese-style Inn is located on Malibu’s Carbon Beach, which has a full view of the ocean. The property’s guests even have direct access to the famous Nobu Malibu restaurant. Between indulging in ocean-side sushi or healthy room service options, private yoga and Pilates sessions are also available, as well as surfing excursions.

Four Seasons Los Angeles, Beverly Hills

With an outdoor gym next to an outdoor pool, you’ll immediately and simultaneously feel energized and relaxed. On the fourth floor, commonly referred to as the wellness floor, rooms and suites have hypoallergenic wood floors, water de-chlorinators, and air purification systems. Of course, the spa offers a menu of wellness-focused treatments, but if you’re looking for an immediate breath of fresh air, simply step out onto your balcony for a breathtaking view.

Pendry, West Hollywood

If you’re looking for a night out on the town at the bars in West Hollywood, Spa Pendry is a great place to crash after a crazed night out. Spa Pendry even has customized IVs for recovery, beauty purposes, and more. For an additional way to recharge after a flight or a drive, you can even book a Glow Getter facial. It’s for all skin types and will, as the name suggests, give you a glow that not even the Southern California sun can mimic.

Fairmont Grand Del Mar, San Diego

Driving up the path to this hotel, overseeing a golf course and beautiful flora left and right, is an immersion into luxury in and of itself. For those looking to expel extra energy, golf, pickleball, tennis, and the fitness center are all options for exercise, including swimming. If the multiple pools and sunshine didn’t already do it for you, a massage at the property’s five-star spa is the best cure for a restless mind and/or body. After a treatment, head over to the spa’s wet and dry saunas and relaxation lounges for extended decompression.
